Robert Grys
BIM Implementation Manager, HOCHTIEF ViCon Qatar

Robert Grys is BIM Implementation Manager at HOCHTIEF ViCon. After graduating in civil engineering, Robert started his career as a scientific assistant at the Ruhr-University of Bochum (Germany), where he was involved in early BIM-research projects. He joined ViCon in 2007, where he has been one of the initial developers of ViCon’s BIM training and certification system and has been involved in the creation of BIM guidelines and contract conditions. In 2009 ViCon founded a subsidiary in Qatar where Robert took on the responsibility as BIM Implementation Manager. He implemented and managed BIM on several international big scale projects and is one of the main contributors of the Qatar BIM User Day conference series in collaboration with Qatar University.

Nura Al Neama
Student (Architecture), College of Engineering, Qatar University

Nura Al Neama is a fourth year undergraduate Architecture student at Qatar University. With a passion for learning to complete her master degree in Landscape Architecture in the near future after graduating in 2017 she is also interested in discovering and solving problems throughout building designs. Her design philosophy: Architectural buildings are defined based on the personality of their citizens yet must be beautiful, functioning and sustainable. Nura is member of the Students Association Group at DAUP and member of the AIAS, in which she is responsible of preparing any non academic event for her colleagues at the department.

Mohamed Mohsen Abdelhamid
BIM Manager, Engineering Consultants Group (ECG)

Mohamed Mohsen is a BIM Manager at Engineering Consultants Group (ECG) in Doha, Qatar, adjunct faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar and a Qatar Green Building Council member. At ECG he has been working on BIM process adoption and implementation, BIM development process and workflows, BIM execution plans preparation and BIM Coordination. He also worked as adjunct faculty at the American University in Cairo (AUC) and as a BIM instructor at the American University in Cairo – School of Continuing Education.

Dr. Hichem Barki
Research Fellow, Qatar University

Dr. Barki is currently a Research Fellow at Qatar University, working on CUBER, an NPRP project dealing with BIM and urban emergency preparedness. He is specializing in Computer Graphics, Geometry, Image Processing, and BIM, and has 10+ years experience in Research, Development, Teaching, Lecturing, and Project Coordination. He obtained his PhD in Computer Science from Lyon1 University, France. He published several papers in prestigious Journals like ACM Transactions on Graphics and attended selective conferences like SIGGRAPH. He served in many conference technical/organization committees, supervised Engineers, researchers, students, and contributed to the development of several software projects.

Dr. Fodil Fadli
Assistant Professor, Dept. of Architecture & Urban Planning, Qatar University

Dr. Fodil Fadli is an architect, assistant professor and the graduate program coordinator at the Dept. of Architecture & Urban Planning, Qatar University. Fodil worked in architectural practice and industry for several years and held numerous research and academic positions in Algiers, Paris, Cardiff, Leeds, Belfast and more recently Liverpool (UK). His research interests span sustainable architecture, sustainability assessment and modeling, building performance evaluation, EIA, BIM, safer buildings and cities, digitizing heritage and design in motion. He has widely published and presented his work in reputed journals and conferences worldwide. He is an expert reviewer and examiner for several journals, conferences, higher education institutions and funding bodies worldwide. He has attracted large research grants worth over US$ 2.5 Million in the last 5 years.

Siraj Rehman
BIM Manager, CH2MHILL/ Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy

Siraj leads BIM on the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ programme. Since joining the SC he has been focused on overhauling the BIM delivery process. In his role as BIM Manager for Kier Construction London, he had led the Group BIM Managers Forum in establishing the Group’s BIM Implementation Strategy. He has also served as Senior Designer at PRP Architects where he functioned as Project Architect as well as BIM coordinator for high density housing projects in London. Past involvement as a Design Consultant, Main Contractor side coupled with significant GIS experience helps Siraj adopt a pragmatic approach to Information Management in his present role as the Client.

Gunnar Godawa
Senior BIM Project Manager, HOCHTIEF ViCon Qatar

Gunnar graduated in Civil Engineering and holds a post-graduate degree in Industrial Engineering and Management. He is certified as a Project Management Associate (IPMA). Gunnar started his career at HOCHTIEF in 2000 as a Construction Manager. He joined HOCHTIEF ViCon shortly after its establishment in 2007 as Project Manager, where he has been involved in the development of custom made BIM execution plans. In 2010 he took on the responsibility as BIM Project Manager in the newly founded ViCon subsidiary in Qatar. He has successfully managed BIM on all ViCon Doha Metro Projects and several international big scale projects in the MENA region.

Andrew Snowball
Senior Technician, Cundall

Andrew is an industry expert with more than 8 years of successful experience in the design and detailing of Structural and Civil engineering projects. He graduated with a BSc in Civil Engineering in 2014 and is a Technician Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers including Engineering Council membership. Andrew is distinguished by his passion for Building Information Modelling (BIM), his focus on effective collaborative working, and his commitment to meeting the client’s needs. With his enthusiasm, expertise and his understanding that collaborative working involves openly sharing knowledge, Andrew has implemented and managed ‘Revit Master Classes’ within Cundall.

Alan Muse
Global Director of Built Environment Professional Group, RICS

Alan has over 30 years’ experience in construction, specializing in the project and cost management of schemes up to £4 billion. Overseas experience includes spells in both the Middle East and East Asia. Since joining the RICS in May 2011, Alan has been leading the RICS response to the government construction strategy. Also, he leads Infrastructure and BIM initiatives within the RICS including the development of skills, training and guidance for RICS members.  Finally, as a Global Director in Professional Groups he liaises with Chartered Surveyors on general matters of international standards development, government policy and education and training.

Mohammad Obaidullah
Project Manager, Qatar Design Consortium

Mohammad Obaidullah attained his Bachelors of Architecture and Masters in Architecture (Urban Regeneration) from the Central University of India with honors; always looking for balance between nature and design, and dedicated to the different design areas from urban masterpiece to product design. For the past 8 years he has handled different aspects of designing and construction in these fields ranging from architectural design and BIM Management to execution and construction processes. Since 2013 he has worked in Qatar as a Project Manager with the Qatar Design Consortium (QDC). During this assignment he successfully led projects such as stadiums, mixed use, residential and institutional developments. The major tasks on these projects include preparing BIM execution plans, project schedules and client trainings.

Imran Mohammad
BIM Manager, Arab Engineering Bureau (AEB)

As a BIM Manager at Arab Engineering Bureau, Imran sets up strategic directions for the company and devises the procedures and protocols for smooth implementation of BIM across the multidisciplinary practice. Before joining AEB, Imran worked as a Lead Designer with many practices in New Zealand where he worked on residential and commercial projects. His thesis report on BIM has been referenced more than 50 times in various research works around the world. He has extensively lectured on various aspects of BIM to the students of Architecture and Construction Management. Imran is also a vivid photographer and loves to capture nature, cityscape and wildlife.

Dr. Abdelaziz Bouras
Chair Professor, Qatar University

Abdelaziz Bouras is MICT/IctQATAR Chair Professor at Qatar University and the current Chair of the International Federation of Information Processing IFIP WG5.1 Group on ICT for global products Lifecycle (http://www.ifip-wg51.org/). His current research deals with architectures for lifecycle engineering and information modeling, including ontology construction, interoperability, semantic consistency, smart products modeling and digital preservation; with main applications in aeronautics, automotive and nuclear industries.  Abdelaziz is the honorary Editor-In-Chief and founder of the International Journal of Product Lifecycle Management (IJPLM) and co-founder of the IFIP International Conference on PLM.

Laura Smagin
Digital Information Manager, ATKINS

Laura Smagin is a business change management specialist, working on all aspects of change driven by industry migration to BIM technologies. Managing business change to maintain the company’s core business philosophy. She has over 28 years of construction industry experience, covering regions such as Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Singapore, Indonesia and Qatar. BIM technical skills, commercial, contracts, legal, management, implementation and business change. A highly motivated individual who can build relationships at both Technical and leadership levels, to support strategic account planning and growth within organisations. Laura has international speaking experience on BIM at many conferences and institutes.

Matthias Krampe
Director, Augmented Reality Investments Pty. Ltd.

Matthias Krampe has over 20 years of international business experience in Technology, Business Development, Supply Chain Management, and Marketing across multiple industries Prior to his very active engagement and investment in the augmented reality & virtual reality sector five years ago, he was Managing Director of a Marketing Communication agency in Qatar; Interim Manager on multiple Logistics and Business Development projects; Business Development Director for major 3rd party logistics providers in Europe and Middle East; Marketing Manager in Hong Kong and USA.

Muhammad Jabakhanji
Head of BIM + VDC, Alpin Limited

Muhammad Jabakhanji is a VDC professional who has advised developers, consultants and contractors on BIM implementation. Muhammad’s strong understanding of design management and practical approach to construction project management has helped him successfully introduce VDC best practices to the workflows of his clients. He is an advocate of the UK BIM standards and the Open BIM initiative and has implemented BS1192 on numerous projects in the region. Muhammad is passionate about designing and constructing high performance assets.

Dr. Racha Chahrour
BIM Project Manager, HOCHTIEF ViCon Qatar

Dr. Racha Chahrour holds a Master Degree and a PhD in Civil Engineering. She started her career as a research and teaching assistant at the Tishrin University in Syria and later at Kassel University in the Construction Management Institute. She joined HOCHTIEF Construction AG in 2008 as Planning & Logistic Engineer, conducting construction management services. In 2011 she joined HOCHTIEF ViCon as a BIM Manager and has successfully mastered projects in Germany and Qatar. She has managed BIM on Doha Metro Projects and the Lusail City Development as a BIM project manager. She has been involved in the QU/TU/HOCHTIEF ViCon – research project from day one, developing BIM Protocols for Qatar.

Prof. Nashwan Dawood Ph.D.
Director of Technology Future Institute (TFI), Teesside University

Prof. Dawood is currently the director of Technology Future Institute (TFI) and director and founder of the Centre for Construction Innovation & Research (CCIR) at Teesside University, UK. He has spent many years as an academic, practitioner and researcher within the field of project and construction management and the application of BIM in the construction process. This has ranged across a number of research topics including sustainability, ICT for energy efficient buildings, information technologies and systems (nD, VR, integrated databases), planning and management of off-site production, risk management and intelligent decision support systems. Prof. Dawood’s work has been widely published in leading journals, as well as being awarded numerous grants from industry bodies. A well known speaker at international conferences, he is the founder of the CONVR (Construction Application of VR) conference series.
